Fun fact:  

Double glazing, as we know it today, was first developed by an American refrigeration engineer named Charles D. Haven in the early 1930s. His invention, known as the “Thermopane,” featured two panes of glass separated by an air gap and sealed around the edges with rubber strips to improve insulation and energy efficiency in windows.

However, there are reports that homes in Scotland had a form of secondary glazing dating back to the 1870s, where a second piece of glass was secured using clay. This early method was akin to what we now refer to as secondary glazing, which is different from the sealed double glazed units invented by Haven.

The concept of double glazing became widely adopted in the USA during the 1940s and 1950s, and it wasn’t until the 1970s and 1980s that it started to become popular in the UK. The UK’s adoption of double glazing was part of a broader movement towards energy efficiency and better insulation in homes, driven by factors such as the oil crisis and new building regulations.

Hi, I'm Paul Duxbury, I own and run "Double Glazing Repairs", with over 40 plus years in the double glazing industry and out lived our 10 year double glazing guarantee four times I could stay I'm pretty experienced in what I do.  Many people will know me better for Pro-fix Windows which I owned ran until April 2023 with my son Adam Duxbury, Adam took over Pro-fix Windows as his own business and continues with the huge success of it's outstanding reputation for high quality windows and doors and of course trusted installer for the superior Rock composite door range, Pro-fix Windows was established in 1995 and continues to run 29 years later, that's pretty good for a window company. 

The window repair market has always had a huge void of untrained people having a go at fixing windows and often making them worse, many people are pushed down the DIY route while window companies are to busy to take on remedial work so simply try and sell you new windows. I decided to fill this void with with a business that is firstly honest, reliable and carries some 40+ years of double glazing repair experience.
